Eckert’s Farm: A Legacy of Family, Tradition, and Sustainable Farming
When you step onto the grounds of Eckert’s Farm in Belleville, Illinois, you aren’t just visiting a farm—you’re stepping into history, tradition, and a vision for the future of farming. I recently had the privilege of meeting with Chris Eckert, President and CEO, whose family has been caring for this land for seven generations. The Eckerts still reside on the farm in a beautiful historic family home, a living reminder of the deep roots they’ve nurtured for more than a century.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of Eckert’s Farm. Every crop grown here reflects a dedication to preserving the land for generations to come. Their produce is free from pesticides, ensuring that the apples, pumpkins, and other seasonal fruits are as pure as nature intended. During my visit, I sampled freshly picked apples—and I can personally attest to their crisp juiciness and authentic farm-fresh flavor.

A Family Tradition for Decades
For decades, families across the region have made Eckert’s part of their seasonal traditions. Whether it’s venturing into the pumpkin patch to find the perfect jack-o’-lantern, strolling through the orchards for apple-picking, or simply taking in the sights and sounds of the farm, Eckert’s offers an experience that has been passed down through generations of visitors just as it has through the Eckert family itself.
More Than a Farm
Even if you’re not in the mood to pick your own produce, Eckert’s Farm still has plenty to offer. Their onsite restaurant and country store showcase products made directly from their harvests, celebrating the flavors of each season. From fresh-baked goods to farm-to-table meals, it’s a true taste of the farm’s bounty.
And let’s not forget their famous apple cider—pressed right on site. In addition, Eckert’s produces 12 different alcoholic ciders, offering guests a chance to enjoy a variety of flavors in their Cider Shed. It’s just one more way the farm has found to blend tradition with innovation.

A Farm That Feels Like Home
What makes Eckert’s Farm truly special is its ability to balance progress with heritage. Chris Eckert and his family have not only kept farming traditions alive but have also created a place where other families can slow down, connect, and make memories of their own.
Whether you’re there for the pumpkins, apples, cider, or simply to enjoy the authentic charm of a historic family-run farm, Eckert’s is a reminder that the best things in life are often the simplest—and most sustainable.
